Holiday Time at Disneyland Outfit Ideas + 5 things you shouldn’t miss!

Holiday time tends to be magical but at Disneyland it’s a whole other level of magic! From now until January 6, 2020 Disneyland has decked out the park with its most festive decor and has celebrations in both parks to match! Which brings me to another fun part about the whole Disneyland experience, dressing up for Disney during the Holidays! On today’s post I am not only giving you my personal favorite Disneyland outfit ideas but I have also enlisted the help of DisneywithBella because welp, she’s the Disney expert and is one of my fave Disney Instagram accounts to follow!

Holiday Time at Disneyland Outfit Ideas

Even though San Diego is just shy of a two hour drive away, when you step through the gates into Mainstreet, U.S.A. at Disneyland it feels like you are in another world! Ever since I was a little girl I would get so giddy with excitement when I knew we were going. Nowadays, I get giddy about planning the outfit so I typically search on Pinterest or on Instagram for ideas and while there are so many out there I wanted to put together my own ideas post because I noticed there is a bit of a formula to the Disney outfit that I hope makes it easy for you when you’re planning yours! Here are some ideas for your next Disney outfit!

1. Minnie Ears

For me, it definitely starts with the Minnie Ears and then everything else kind of follows. The ears used to be something you only found at the park itself, but now not only do you have the Disney store, but also so many creative Disney lovers on Etsy or on Instagram (@shophouseofmouse is one of Disney with Bella’s personal faves!)

2. Polka Dots or red or both!

You can never go wrong with black and white or red and white dots! It’s a touch of Minnie and Mickey on your outfit!

3. Plaid

Plaid is THE pattern this time of year but I also noticed that a plaid/buffalo check blouse tied around the waist is a good idea to add a pop of color or fun to your outfit.

4. Comfortable shoes

If you have been to Disneyland you know there is A LOT of walking involved. My day at Disneyland currently holds the record of the most steps I have walked in a day at 24k steps! I bring this up to say that comfy shoes are a MUST. During winter time think sneakers (like Converse, Nike), comfy flat boots or even UGG boots. Also make sure you check out the day’s forecast in case you need to bring rain boots!

5. A backpack or big bag!

Now that you have your outfit ready to go, let’s talk about a bag to keep all your essentials in! Make sure your bag allows you to be hands-free like a backpack or crossbody bag!

5 things you shouldn’t miss during the holidays at Disneyland

1.  Haunted Mansion Holiday

The Haunted Mansion is already one of my favorite rides as it is, and every year it gets even better with the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay! Jack Skellington and all his friends take over the mansion for some frightfully festive fun. As a tradition since 2001, there’s a new design for the gingerbread house displayed in the Grand Hall and in celebration of the Haunted Mansion’s 50th anniversary, this year you can see a gingerbread house modeled after the mansion itself! Fun fact: it took 120 pounds of frosting and icing to create this ghost home. You’ll know you’re getting close when you smell it!

  2.  “it’s a small world” Holiday

Speaking of holiday overlays, there’s a ton of reasons why you shouldn’t miss “it’s a small world” this season! One being the over 50,000 lights that illuminate the face of the building alone that bring this attraction to life. As if that’s not enough, this year 3 new wonderful scents are being featured throughout the ride. Cherry blossom in Asia, cinnamon in South America, and coconut in the South Seas are joining the current scents of pine and peppermint in the European scenes. And because the holidays can be one of the busiest times of the year for this ride, take advantage of FastPass which is distributed near Matterhorn Bobsleds.

  3.  Holiday Treats!

One of my favorite parts of the holidays are all the pretty and delicious limited time foods and snacks around the park. ‘Tis the season to try. Them. All. Here are some of my faves:

  • Hot Chocolate Beignets
  • Frozen Abuelita Horchata
  • Mickey Gingerbread Man
  • Handmade Candy Canes
  • Candy Cane Beignets
  • Green Alien Holiday Macaron
  • Holiday theme Rice Krispy Treats
  • Seasonal flavored Churros

4.  Tick-Tock Tidings

Starting at 5:15 p.m. and throughout the night, you can watch as the Tick-Tock Tidings light projection show animates the face of “it’s a small world” Holiday when the clock ticks every 30 minutes. This short projection show features different scenes like a toy factory and a gingerbread house while playing the nutcracker. Pro tip: if you hang around this area after the fireworks, you can catch both the light show and gingerbread scented “snoap” (snow soap) for some (almost) real winter fun.

  5.  A Christmas Fantasy Parade

This merry musical celebration makes its way down Main Street, passed the Matterhorn, and towards “it’s a small world.” See the princesses and other Disney characters in their cute holiday outfits along with some of Santa’s little helpers. It’s the perfect way to get you in the Christmas spirit!
