Netflix & Bravo Shows to binge during Social Distancing

As of the time I am writing this post, the Governor of California announced a ‘Stay at home’ order and while we are living in such scary and anxious times I wanted to lighten things up with some Netflix & Bravo Shows to binge during Social Distancing recommendations since I’ve watched A LOT of shows over the past few weeks. Since I will continue to be at home, I will be adding more shows to this list as I watch more with colorful commentary to better guide your show watching preferences! Also HUGE note: I do not take for granted that I can be at home while the brave doctors, nurses, first responders, grocery store workers, workers in the supply chain, etc are out there in the front lines. My prayers are with them and those who are affected!

Netflix & Bravo Shows to binge during Social Distancing *updated 5/19/2020

Netflix:

Good background shows/don’t require a lot of attention to detail:

  • Love is Blind: If you like the Bachelor or Married At First Sight, you’ll LOVE this one. There is one couple that MAKES this show for me in a fairy tale ending, and a couple of those that get painted as the villains, I’ll let you figure out who.
  • Cheer: It’s not only about cheerleaders, but it takes a closer look at some of these cheerleaders lives and the adversity they faced. Their stories were both sad and inspirational and you just want the best for them- like Jerry, love him!
  • Gilmore Girls: Gilmore Girls is such a light, fun and cute show. It took me a few episodes to REALLY be invested, but after that it was such a great show to put on while cleaning and getting mind off of things. If you finish this one and want the same small town show, Heart of Dixie did that for me, as it was filmed in the same set and gave me the same vibe.
  • Schitt’s Creek: Similar to Gilmore Girls, super light, funny and with that small town feel.
  • Tiger King: Not much has to be said unless you have been living under a rock.

Requires paying attention:

  • Narcos Mexico: Just finished season 2, SO GOOD, but if you don’t speak or understand Spanish you’ll have to read subtitles. This one is based on the Mexico cartels in the 80’s. Sadly, it it loosely based on true events which is horrifying. You don’t need to watch Narcos to jump into Narcos Mexico, but that one is also good too. Narcos is based on Pablo Escobar and the Cali Cartel so that one is a different story.
  • The Crown: It’s slow and quiet but you’ll get lost if you don’t listen. I have always been a fan of the royal family so this one feels like a fly in the wall to one of the most private yet famous families in history. So beautifully made and it gives an insight into how Queen Elizabeth II became Queen (when her uncle gave up the crown for a woman) and all of the royal drama around her, from her sister wanting to marry a divorced man, to how they interfered in Prince Charles and Camila’s relationship. I found myself googling things to see if it was really true!
  • Breaking Bad and El Camino: I watched this show when it was on AMC and I was addicted. It is so grim though so I don’t think I would be able to binge it because it’s heavy! One you have watched it, they have El Camino which just came out a few months ago which extends the ending (so good and emotional). And if you really want to continue this type of journey there is Better Call Saul (spin off of one of the characters).
  • Ozark: It’s like the American fantasy version of Narcos. Very dark and blue but gets good! Ozark season 3 was a-ma-zing!!!! That ending was like whaaaat?! You have to see it.
  • You: This feels like a teen horror series, but for some reason I had to keep watching! The twists in Season 1 were really unexpected, but in Season 2 it started getting tiring, I was like “really?” yet I still binged it the weekend it came out so there is something there that hooked me.
  • Inside Bills Brain: Decoding Bill Gates – I’m very interested in an inside look at a genius’s day of life, this intertwines Bill Gates life with what their foundation is trying to accomplish. I liked how they show his day in the life, how he consumes SO MANY books and has “think weeks” in a cabin by himself. I am always curious how successful people operate and this gives a peak into what shaped him from his childhood to now.
  • The OA: even though it did not get renewed for Part III, keep in mind it’s just 2 parts and that’s all she wrote! This one requires a lot of attention, it kept losing me, so I had to read theories after each episode because I was like “what does this mean??” The ending of Season 1 though, had me crying out loud.
  • WACO: Based on a true story, that I remember watching on the news, this series gives more insight on what went on. It made me really upset at the end. Definitely did not remember it this way!
  • Dead to Me: Season 2 just came out and it definitely kept my attention all throughout. For me, Christina Applegate makes this show, she’s so good! This show is a dark comedy of sorts, but I feel like this season there was more dark than comedy.

Amazon Prime:

  • The Marvelous Mrs. Meisel: I watched it because it’s by the same co-creator as Gilmore Girls (Amy Sherman-Palladino) and I was so enamored by the whole show. The cinematography, the story line… all of it was such a feel-good show. It’s such a beautiful show to watch, and the acting is ON POINT.
  • Sex and the City (all seasons): I had to throw this one in here. I watched this show in real time meaning every Sunday night I would sit in front of our tv and watch it. I was still younger than the characters but could relate because I was single and dreamed of living in a city! lol. Now I watch it because it was so ahead of its time in honing in on womanly stuff that no one talks about!
  • Making the Cut: So, I debated on even including this one, I guess I’ll included as a placeholder that I watched it. You guys, I didn’t finish the season, nor am I tempted- it lost me! I feel like it was trying too hard to set itself apart from Project Runway. The judges were amazing, I mean they have Naomi Campbell that really for me saves the show at times, but the fashion was ok, spotty for me and the whole “this is not a sewing competition” but it kinda was because the designers that couldn’t really sew were sent packing. While for me it wasn’t bingeworthy I am interested in knowing if anyone else found it binge-worthy?

Hulu:

  • Handmaid’s Tale: I will warn you this one is heavy and scary to watch considering the state of our country and world. I don’t recommend it if you’re not in the head space to handle an intense show.

Bravo (all mindless):

  • The Real Housewives of Atlanta: From all of the casts the RHO Atlanta ladies crack me up, they throw some witty shade and have me laughing.
  • The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills: So far we are 2 episodes into the new season and they are hyping up a huge scandal with Denise Richards. To me, this cast is the most fashionably forward of the bunch. I love how they take so many fashion risks to the point of looking ridiculous.
  • The Real Housewives of New York: Definitely weird without Bethanny but they are making it still entertaining without her. I wish they would show more of their business side (do they even have any?) as that is what I really enjoyed about Bethanny’s story line.
  • Project Runway: This past season that just wrapped up was SO good! I had lost interest over the seasons but I could tell they really upped the caliber of the designers, prizes and names attached. I love that they were inclusive and had designers that were very conscious of the environment.
  • Vanderpump Rules: This is such an s- show but good trash tv. I think they could have done without introducing a bunch of new people, but the old cast is worth watching.
  • Summer House: Another s- show that is totally mindless. If you like Vanderpump Rules you will definitely like this one.
  • Below Deck: If I had to choose which one to start off with first it would be Below Deck (there is also Below Deck Med), and you can start at the most recent season that just wrapped up. The season was INTENSE, in that there was such a division between the “brus” and the women on the boat.

If you have any that you’d like me to watch, let me know!

On my watch list:

  • The Office
  • Fleabag
  • Peaky Blinders
  • Little Fires Everywhere
