Welcome to my very first episode of Cafesito with Pau! Back in July I pitched the idea on Instagram because I LOVE my coffee and I LOVE chatting so what do you get when you combine both? A girl who chats about so many random topics: like any Bravo show because I literally watch them all, or podcasts because I listen to at least 5 hours worth of them a week sitting in my car on my long commutes, or even the #momlife struggles! This will be my lil series to just indulge in all of these other topics that I typically don’t talk about here soooo… welcome!
What I’m wearing:
I’m going to try to somewhat organize my random topics so here we go…
SHOW/ONLINE SERIES I’M OBSESSED WITH THIS WEEK…
I divide my shows into the trash tv/fluff shows that I usually play in the background as I do other things like clean or do blog tasks and the heavy/meaty shows that require my complete attention (i.e. Game of Thrones, Westworld, Breaking Bad). Ever since Game of Thrones ended I have been fishing for one of those high level of concentration shows so let me know if you have any recommendations in the comments or via DM.
My watch list this week has been 99% those trash tv shows like Real Housewives of Orange County, Real Housewives of Dallas, Below Deck, and Million Dollar Listing to name a few. Surprisingly the show that I’m obsessed with this week was not on tv, but on youtube! I’ve been obsessed with the new Shane Dawson series “The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star” reason being that I really do like Shane Dawson and his “underdog” approach to pulling back the curtain on big things like the make up world. I say “underdog” in quotations because he is not one by any means, or at least not one any more, since he trends #1 every time he puts out a video and his merch sold out within hours! This series focuses on his collaboration with Jeffree Star in creating a whole makeup palette and showing the process like choosing the colors, the names, and giving actual dollar figures which no other cosmetic company really talks about. Not going to lie, I watch it more for what I tend to watch Real Housewives, for the drama! So far the videos take place before the whole James Charles, Tati falling out so it will be interesting how it plays out. Have you guys watched it?
PODCAST I LIKED THIS WEEK…
I typically listen to podcasts that relate to being an “influencer” but this week I wanted to change it up, especially as I headed into busy days at work. I started listening to The Happiness Lab with Dr. Laurie Santos and since it’s a fairly newer podcast I binged on the available episodes. I highly recommend it if you like self-help podcasts as this delves into the science of happiness. The latest episode delves deeper into the toll on our experiences when we decide to take pictures of the said experience (i.e. the cost in happiness of being on a trip and focusing on getting the shot to share on social media). I think it is obvious that it lessens the happiness factor when we bust out our phones to take a picture, but it’s interesting to listen to Dr. Laurie Santos quantify it. One of the things that stood out to me is that it not only diminishes our happiness but those are around us, like our kids or loved ones.
HIGHLIGHT OF MY WEEK…
Being with Julian will always be a highlight of my week, but on the social front I was able to escape one evening to attend Fashion Valley and Modern Luxury’s “Feast on Fashion” event. What made it so enjoyable was being able to reconnect and meet new people in the San Diego style scene like my San Diego blogger friends. I feel like I hadn’t been out to a fashion event in San Diego in a while, mainly because getting me out of the house on a week day is close to nearly impossible BUT this week I really needed a night out.
CHALLENGE OF MY WEEK…
House hunting. You would think this would be fun right? We LOVE the house we are in now, we love our neighborhood, but we need more space. That is why for us to move we have to find a house that rocks our world and there hasn’t been one. It’s also the time of year where people are gearing up for the Holidays so the inventory feels low. There’s been a couple of houses that have gotten me excited, but not my husband, so it makes me feel a bit impatient. I guess at this point I’m praying one pops up that gets us BOTH excited and if not then we are OK where we are at and the silver lining is that it gives us more time to save money for when that dream home appears. Going to so many open houses and showings though have also made me realize that people will be seeing our house if we put it on the market, so I’ve been thinking about redecorating and continuing on my declutter mission. Stay tuned…
MY FAVORITE PURCHASES THIS WEEK…
Talking about redecorating, I bought a new rug for our living room, and next on the list is a faux plant that has had really good reviews! I also didn’t buy this this week but I’ve gotten SO many compliments on this starry dress and this faux snakeskin moto jacket. I have put my favorites below in case you want to scope them out.
WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT THIS UPCOMING WEEK…
God Willing, on our plans this week is getting our Halloween costumes (which I hope to shoot before Halloween so that we don’t have to worry about pictures the day of), Going to the San Diego Symphony “Pixar Coco in Concert” (where I will for sure shed some tears, such a beautiful movie rooted in my Mexican Heritage), and right now I’m off to a baby shower for my dear friend!
Hope you all have a fantastic week and let me know your thoughts! Hit me up on Instagram under @lilbitsofpau!
