I had promised in this cabi Fall 2019 post that I would show you how to transition this blouse and skinny Jean combo into fall and as we say in Spanish “lo prometido es deuda” (what is promised is a debt) so here I am to show you how while also showing how to mix animal prints and florals!
What I’m wearing: cabi Fall 2019 Snake Charmer Blouse | cabi Button Fly Skinny Jeans | Necklaces (are all-in-one) here! | cabi’s Josephine coat | Black sunglasses | Black over the knee boots
How to transition an outfit in fall
Start with adding a layer! Allow me to introduce you to cabi’s Josephine coat, a plush faux-fur leopard coat that will definitely be on repeat as soon as the temperatures dip! This coat became the perfect layering piece to take this look into fall mode especially as animal print is BIG this time of season.
Switch out accessories and shoes! I switched out the fun headband and heeled sandals that I had worn for the summer version of this look for these black over the knee boots! If I had to recommend a staple shoe for your wardrobe black over the knee boots would be at the top of that list. These in particular are going on 3 years which is a testament of how they have become timeless. If you’re not an over the knee boot type of gal, you can also do a black heel or even black booties!
How to mix animal prints and florals
I know mixing animal prints and florals are not an obvious styling choice but when I played around with this pairing there was something about the combo that caught my eye. Maybe it’s because both share the same color scheme (fall colors) or maybe because leopard is quickly feeling like a neutral nowadays. I shot these pics a few weeks ago and last night as I was perusing the latest InStyle magazine (yup, I still like to gather inspo from magazines!) I came across a section on their Trend Report called “Dark Romance” where they say “combine florals with animal prints (and anything else you fancy) for a kooky, eclectic effect” and they go on to show leopard coats and floral top as well as other animal print and floral pairings. That whole section reminded me of this outfit and confirmed that their is something interesting about this combo! I wouldn’t necessarily call it kooky, although I’m sure it can be taken that route with two extremes, but more like eclectic-chic!
Feel free to let me know if you would give animal print and floral mixing a try! If anything you can always stick to one or the other, like I did in the Summer version and like I am going to do in an upcoming blog post where I’ll show you other leopard coat styling ideas. As always, you can find me on the daily over on Instagram if you have any questions or just want to say hi!
