Today’s blog post will be a little different because instead of talking about the outfit (which if you’re interested in shopping it will be linked below), I wanted to focus on what this blog post means. This is the first blog post that I create beginning to end on WordPress. Yes ladies and gents I was still operating on blogger and not going to lie, it was mainly because I was emotionally attached! Blogger is where I started lilbitsofchic.com as lilbitsofchic.blogpost.com with this first blog post in 2011. Back then blogging wasn’t what it is today (the term “influencer” and Instagram didn’t even exist) and my site was started simply as a hobby, an online journal of sorts to share my creative side since my 9 to 5 didn’t require it, plus San Diego wasn’t a hub for fashion.

This blog has seen so many iterations of design, my personal style has evolved, a lot of great opportunities have come from it and this site has grown with me, but it was time to move on to bigger things- a platform where I can up level lilbitsofchic.com and allow it more space to reach its potential. Blogger will continue to hold a special place in my heart, and honestly it feels like I have left an office that I worked in for 8 years, a place that was so familiar, where I had my routines and knew what to expect and now I’m in this new office having to re-learn everything! From how to upload pictures, to how to add widgets, etc. it’s all new to me but it brings up something about blogging/this influencer space that a lot of people who aren’t in it don’t realize- that the learning doesn’t end!
One of the most frequently asked questions is “how do you start a blog?” and lately with the perception that being an influencer is fast money it has been “how do you make money blogging?” I can seriously write a whole blog post to the latter question alone, but the truth is when asked I get stuck because there is not a short answer. Typically the first sentence in my response is “just start it” but not going to lie a lot of times I just want to respond “google it” because that’s what I did and am still doing to this day. Hello? I googled “how to…” 10 times in putting this blog post together! Plus, a lot of people sit in the sidelines hoping to somehow perfect their blogs or find the time to start one before announcing it to the world because they are comparing their beginning to someone else’s middle (ps. this comes from the quote by Jon Acuff “don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle”) and the truth is we all start somewhere!
The other truth bomb is that 90% of this gig is me figuring it out, working hard, LOTS of google searches, LOTS of youtube tutorials, LOTS of research, LOTS of podcasts to keep a pulse of the influencer world and the other 10% is asking a blogger friend or trusted social media person. Before I had Julian I would sit in my home office for hours trying to figure stuff out. Like I said the learning never ends! Whenever you are trying to figure something out, whether it’s blog-related, or in life put in the work to find the answers – don’t think someone will hand you the answer or mimic what someone else is doing or try to find a shortcut because that successful person put in the work behind the scenes and has had the grit to continue despite the trials and errors, and girrrl there have been a lot in my blogging career!
So here I am on this new platform, which in my heart I know was a good step but also that there is a lot to learn and work on in the days ahead. Not going to lie, I like this type of challenge (again blogger perfectionist in me) and have SO many things I want to do around here, but as a working mommy I have to pace myself and do things little by little. So bear with me! I have so many exciting things coming up ahead for you my readers so…. stay tuned!
