I don’t know if you have noticed but I am honing in on what I know for sure- work wear! Who better to tell you about business attire than someone who tests it out for ya on the daily? (me!) For today’s post, I wanted to offer my take on the casual business outfit, specifically calling out my favorite “formula”.

My Casual Business Outfit Formula is…
- a comfortable blouse,
- a comfortable blazer,
- comfortable sleek jeans (don’t even consider distressed denim)
- and comfortable heels. Simple as that!
And yes I realize that every component has to be comfortable!
Allow me to go on a quick tangent, but it needs to be said that one of my biggest pet peeves is impractical office wear advice from those who don’t actually go to an office and sit, stand or walk in the outfit for 8-10 hours a day (hence them probably not realizing it is impractical). Jumpsuits, super high heels, tightly fitted pieces, and tight jeans to me are impractical for my business day, why? Because in the span of a work day I make countless trips to the restroom (putting on and taking off a jumpsuit sounds like a nightmare), do a lot of walking (high heels will wear on those feet of ours), and have to do a lot of sitting sometimes too. The outfit has to make your day EASIER, and pretty much stress free so you can focus on the work that you are getting paid to do. Which is why I am a huge proponent of comfortable attire that is also stylish! Ok, I’ll get off my soapbox…
Everything I am wearing today is linked below and I have confirmed they are indeed comfy!
In all of the pieces that you get for your work day you will find out fairly quickly which pieces don’t cut it. One of my tricks is to keep a comfortable pair of flats and a sweater in my cubicle, just in case. While it won’t solve everything, having those options available are better than being stuck at work wearing heels that you still need to break in, or a blazer that is fitted and feels restrictive (can you tell I’ve been there?) On a positive note, I love a good printed or plaid blazer. While I think having a black blazer in your workwear arsenal, this plaid one is a good one to throw into the rotation because it looks so chic and non-basic. A trick when you feel like the shape of the blazer is too tight or fitted is to get it one size up.
