What I love about collaborating is bringing in our own style interpretation. In this case Vanessa is a Personal Stylist constantly on-the-go between clients and fitting rooms and she explains her go-to San Diego winter work outfits (as well as her stylist tips) in her blog post here.

San Diego Winters…

I have to emphasize that this is a “San Diego Winter” outfit because San Diego has warmer and sunnier winters than most. Unlike places like Utah or other parts of the country, our weather ranges to from warm to chilly and back without ANY snow and contain more sunshine that not because we are the Sunshine state after all! When it came to thinking about my go-to work outfit I had to look no further than what I wear to work now. My full time job and career is being a Manager at a Financial Services firm here in San Diego with a business casual dress code.

What I look for in my Winter Workwear Pieces:

  • Comfort: I love comfortable, sleek pieces because I sit at my desk in an open cubicle most of the day and make several trips to get coffee, the kitchen, the restroom and to/from my car. When you sit at a desk job you realize very quickly if a piece is comfortable or not, like when you wear a pair of jeans and you ate a lot over the weekend- yep not so comfy!
  • Warmth: These pieces also have to be warm especially because I head out to work at 5ish in the morning which is our prime time low- the other day it was 38 degrees which is insanely cold for us. And layers are crucial because I usually can’t control the heater/AC in our building so I have to prepared to layer up or delayer.
  • Sleekness: Once the two other boxes are checked, you gotta look good to tackle that job girl! Yes I usually turn to darker colors for my every day outfits, but for some reason I just love how sleek darker and neutral shades look together. Also, one of my pieces has to be structured, whether it be the coat, or the trousers, having that one piece be structured elevates sleekness for me.

My San Diego Winter Work Outfit

The outfit I put together here checks off all of the aforementioned boxes- comfort- check! warmth-check! and sleekness- check! Ever since I picked up this knit midi dress I wear it at least once a week, just changing out the coat/blazer and shoes. When I wore it for the first time I felt like I was walking around in my robe! It is THAT comfortable, plus it is long and thick enough to where it offers great coverage. I layered this structured coat over to offer that sleekness and to also offer additional coverage. I like to wear some sort of layering piece especially on pieces that are form fitting like this knitted midi dress. For shoes, I toggle between pointed flats (like these) and pointed booties. The benefit of booties is that you can sneak in warm socks in there *wink, wink*
