With over 80 years in existence, Bates Nut Farm has evolved over time to not only sell nuts, but also be THE go-to pumpkin patch of San Diego. They were generous enough to invite us to preview their fall activities (now going on in the month of October) and also get a tour of the farm from Bates Family’s own Sherrie Bates Ness.
Sherrie showed us where they roast and season the nuts they get from all over the world, a behind the scenes of their general store where they had all of their homemade fudge (just typing that out made my mouth water!) all while giving us some history on the farm including how the became a well-known pumpkin patch. She said the pumpkin patch aspect started when a teacher asked if she could bring her students to see how pumpkins grow, then after that more and more people flocked to the farm to get some pumpkins!
Talkin’ about pumpkins, you will find all sorts at the farm! They provide wheel barrels to facilitate the process or they act as good photo ops too! The month of October is their most popular month and aside from the pumpkin patch, visitors will also find tractor hayrides, a straw maze, and some weekends there will be additional family-friendly activities like a petting zoo and pony rides to name a few (check out their October calendar here!)
As you could tell, my outfit revolved around matching the little man. I bought his set first and put together my look with pieces I had in my closet and a new pair of booties I bought for casual events like this. Trying to get a 10 month old to pose is NOT easy, but I’m so glad we were able to capture these pictures of him.
Thank you Bates Nut Farm for having us and allowing us to start this new tradition with the baby! I can’t wait to make more memories at the farm in the coming years.
