Last week Del Mar kicked off its 79th summer racing season with its traditional (and spectacular) Del Mar Opening Day! As I mentioned previously (here), overdressing and hats/fascinators/head pieces are a must for Opening Day and if you know me, I don’t let those overdressing opportunities pass me by, so this year I went with this glam ensemble (all linked below).
About the Outfit: Chicwish Dressblack pointed captoe heels (sold out, but similar here)Galian “Zoe” bag (sold out, but very similar here) Hermes Belt | Black hat from Macy’s (sold out, but similar here) | MAC Red Lipstick
As always, the crowd of fashionable people did not disappoint especially the hat contest competitors, and I say competitors because they certainly brought out their A-game! How amazing are these finalists! Hard to believe those masterpieces can balance on their heads!

But Opening Day is not the only highlight of the Del Mar Racing season, aside from the horse races there are a lot of great events for everyone as they have a slew of events at the track!
Here are some upcoming events to note:
$1 Million TVG Pacific Classic on August 18th is Del Mar’s richest and most prestigious stakes race! This event draws in thousands of fans to the track to witness the nation’s top equine athletes and Thoroughbreds race to the finish.
Gourmet Food Truck Festival is taking place on Saturday, Aug. 11. Guests can sample some of SoCal’s most delicious food on wheels. More than 30 food trucks are expected, all in one location, with gourmet chefs serving their eclectic bests at affordable prices.

Guests can enjoy a variety of carefully-crafted micheladas from 20 vendors, watch Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling and check out the car exhibition with SoCal’s nicest lowriders.
Donuts DayonJuly 28 and Aug. 11. From 8-10 a.m., DelMar will offer free coffee, orange juice and decadent donuts to kick start the day. The whole family can watch the horses work out on the track – and kids can enjoy face painting, free prizes and a meet and greet with DelMar mascot, Pony Boy!
Taste of the Turf Club Every Sunday experience a different prepared menu by Chef Brian Malarkey in the exclusive Turf Club at Del Mar.
If you’re in San Diego, I hope you get to experience a fun day at the track!!
