Since we welcomed our son into this world, there have been a lot of firsts– first time we take him to the doctor, first time we take him to the store, first time he starts crying at a restaurant (oh, the joys of parenthood!) and now the first time he sleeps at a hotel. Each first is a challenge in itself because babies can be unpredictable, so when it came time for baby’s first vacation, staying in San Diego was a baby step (no pun intended) while not being too far from home.
The Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine kindly hosted this very special first and made us feel right at home with its family-friendly atmosphere and amenities. It is even pet-friendly which meant we could have brought along our shih tzu Mr. Coco, but we didn’t want to overdo it. My heart melted when we walked into our studio suite and saw that they had set up a crib for the baby (you can request a crib when checking in)! The room was so spacious and stylishly decorated that I had to record a room tour that you can see on my Instagram under the “San Diego” story highlights.
The Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine is located in a prime area of San Diego, with close proximity to the beach, shopping, and attractions such as Downtown San Diego, La Jolla Cove and Del Mar just to name a few. It has 417 newly refurbished guest rooms, has a ballroom that accommodates 500 guests for events and it is also the home to the only Jr. Olympic-size pool in the area! We checked out the pool area, but due to the surprisingly cold weather in San Diego this weekend, we couldn’t take a dip, however we did take some cute outfit pics- heaaay!

We had dinner at their in-house restaurant DRIFT eat + drink. DRIFT has California-casual cuisine and super cool decor. When I shared the DRIFT Nachos on my Instastories I received lots of messages of how amazing they looked, and yep, they were sooooo good! Super loaded like nachos should be! The hubby and I cheered with a virgin margarita (for me), a beer (for him), very full bellies and a baby sleeping in his stroller, to a successful day with the baby!
The night went so smooth! We had packed all of baby’s gear, like his sound machine and projector, bottle warmer, etc. and he only got up twice to feed (typically it can go up to three). In the morning while baby and I hung out in robes (#robelife!) daddy went down to put a workout in at the Hyatt StayFit gym. At one point it felt like Sunday morning bliss when the baby was chillin’, I had my freshly brewed coffee fix courtesy of the in-room Keurig, The San Diego Union Tribune was delivered at our doorstep, and I was comfortably relaxing in the Hyatt robe and slippers!
But wait, then there was breakfast! We made our way downstairs to the Lower Lobby for a divine breakfast at Barcino Grill. They had so many delicious options, from an omelette station to a full American breakfast, to a healthy section, to pastries! Thankfully baby was happy in his stroller while we ate comfortably, that is until he had a little accident in his diaper, but luckily we were a short elevator ride away from our big comfy room! Hey, you can’t expect a weekend with a newborn to be perfect!

And so our staycation came to an end and we were kind of bummed! The weekend was a good and memorable first, it made us feel more comfortable traveling with the baby and for that I want to thank the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine. If you are visiting San Diego and are looking at hotels, I highly recommend them!
