On Monday, I celebrated Mexican Independence Day at the Don Julio Party on the grounds of the Junipero Serra Museum which was converted into a hip Mexican themed extravaganza! The party was DJ’d by Tijuana’s Nortec which plays a fusion of electronic music and banda… music to my ears!
Don Julio stations were lined up with specialty drinks that were made with 100% Mexican flavors and ingredients, created by one of America’s best bartenders, Andy Seymour. My favorite was the “Revueltas de la Independencia”, it was so delicious that I have included the recipe (courtesy of Don Julio) down below!

Revueltas de la Independencia Recipe
Ingredients:
1 1/2 ounces Tequila Don Julio Reposado1/2 ounce Agave Nectar
1/3 ounce Fresh Lime Juice
2 Pineapple Chunks
4 Mint Leaves
Cubed Ice
Mint Sprig and Pineapple Leaf for Garnish
Preparation:
- Muddle chunks of pineapple and mint leaves with agave nectar in a Boston shaker.
- Combine muddled mixture with Tequila Don Julio Reposado and fresh lime juice in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well.
- Strain into a rocks glass over ice.
- Garnish with mint sprig and pineapple leaf.
Yield:
1 drink, no drink contains more than 0.6 fluid ounces of alcohol
