Where the Surf Meets the Turf

If you are from San Diego you know that the Del Mar horse racing season is starting this Wednesday! Opening Day at the Del Mar Racetrack is our version of the Kentuck Derby, where everyone comes out dressed to impress with their best head pieces!

Dressing up for Opening Day is the funnest part for a fashion-lover like me because of the countless options. Having gone to 5 Opening Days in a row, I tried to experiment with different dress shapes and hats throughout the years. I usually stuck with the girly fit and flare dresses or shift dresses topped with a big hat!

A hat contest is held which people take extremely seriously, just look at some of the contestants!

Regardless of what you are wearing, remember to wear a smile, hydrate (because it’s hot), and have fun!! Also note that there is usually no service at this event because of the thousands of people in one location so put the phone down, bet on some horses and enjoy the moment!
